DESCRIPTION:
EPW - August Von Loehr, Swiss self-winding "Perpetuale" with winding indicator, 48mm, .875 "First Silver Warranted" OF original case with silver cuvette marked "Perpetuale Patent," automatically winding by motion activated winding weight on lever, also KW, set by touch piece through central aperture in cuvette, WED with aperture for rotating WI dial, the sub-dial rotating as the watch is wound and its hand moving as the watch winds down, cylinder escapement, 6J, electrum gilt mvt, s#5855. This wonderful old self-winding patent also features over-winding protection; the gathering click disengages when the mainspring gets tight enough to pull an activating lever into position by its tail-end; one can see the mounted disengagement pin above the click wheel; ca 1890. Sold in our galleries in 2011.
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good poise, slightly oil-smeared plates show a few MFS, good slots & settings, only a little oxide on bright work or winding weight assembly; dial with chip repair above WI and associated hl; hands of similar but not identical style or color; original heavy gauge case shows very light wear, few MFS, minor light dents or dings to the back; bow tight; good glass crystal.
